SPCA Urges Donors to Wear Their Paws with Pride
Blue paw prints should be much in evidence next month, when the Royal New Zealand SPCA holds its annual appeal.
The national SPCA ‘Paws Appeal’ will take place from 7th to 13th November. Appeal envelopes are to be mailed to every
home in New Zealand and there will be local street collections in many parts of the country, with donors receiving paw
print lapel stickers. All monies raised by local SPCA branches will be used locally.
“Our blue paw print symbolises the tens of thousands of animals that the SPCA helps every year, “says the Royal New
Zealand SPCA’s National Chief Executive, Robyn McDonald.
“This year, our collectors will also be selling paw print badges and blue paw motif silicon bracelets that carry our
animal welfare message. By purchasing one of these badges or bracelets, you will be making a very real contribution to
our work.
“The SPCA performs an extremely wide-ranging animal welfare role. We rescue animals in distress, investigate and
prosecute cases of cruelty and neglect towards them and provide sanctuary when they are lost or abandoned. We also
rehabilitate animals, find them new homes, provide education on the best way to care for them and lobby government and
advocate on their behalf.
“We do all this without government funding. Instead, we rely primarily on the generosity of kind-hearted and responsible
New Zealanders. Our national Paws Appeal is an opportunity for them to support our care for animals. That’s a very good
reason to wear your blue paw with pride,” she says.
