Dunedin Shows Otaaago Support with Blue and Gold Octagon
Dunedin ( 19 October, 2005) – Dunedin has painted part of its iconic Octagon Blue and Gold in support of the Vodafone Otago rugby team’s appearance in the National Provincial Championship final this weekend.
Otago supporters around the world can view the good luck Otaaago sign on the City’s website camera at www.CityofDunedin.com.
“There are a lot of people who can’t physically get to the game in Auckland but they can show their support to Aucklanders via the webcam,” said Peter Chin, Mayor of Dunedin.
“I’m sure some of the Otago boys will be going online ahead of the game and they will be able to see the support that the City has for them,” he said.
“Heck, I’d even expect a few Aucklanders to have a look,” he said. “While they are online they can also take a look at our jobs website at www.workotagonz.co.nz and prepare for their move to Dunedin,” he said.
Mayor Chin said the success of the Vodafone Otago team in this year’s NPC reflects an optimistic mood in the City of Dunedin.
“The City is vibrant and is doing well and I am sure this success will be reflected at Eden Park on Saturday night,” he said
Dunedinites can also show their support for the team by signing a message board in the Golden Centre. The message board is in addition to messages being collected by the Otago Daily Times via its phone, email, and fax services.
