Amplifier Newsletter #190 - 12 October 2005

Amplifier Newsletter #190 - 12 October 2005

Kia ora , The week started out with the NZ Music Awards. As always it was a very messy affair and Amplifier enjoyed its fair share of the partying. It was surprising to see the leader of the opposition Don Brash show up and in the end some of the presenters and artists couldn't help but have a crack. Fat Freddy's Drop were the big winners on the night with 4 gongs but there was also good showings by other independents including P-Money,

The Checks and Del Rey System. The moving finale with Dave Dobbyn, Yulia, Boh Runga (Stellar*), Andy Lovegrove (Breaks Co-Op), Warren Maxwell (Fat Freddy's/Trinity Roots), Ed Knowles (The Checks), Ahmed Zaoui and the Tower NZ Youth Choir performing Welcome Home was enough to move us to tears. Anyway before the hangover had cleared we flew down to the capital and had some very productive meetings with some labels and bands which you’ll start seeing the fruits of over the next few weeks.

Then on Saturday night we joined over 550 people at Bodega for the ! OdESSA, Oak Park Avenue launch. Every time we visit Wellington it becomes more and more tempting to pick up the office and move it south. Now if only there was a decent rugby team there :)
