Auckland City, The EDGE and Playmarket are thrilled to be able to offer two new and existing AUCKLAND based Maori and Pacific Island writers the opportunity to create and develop their new full-length plays as part of our upcoming second

Pasifika Playwrights Development Forum
Pasifika 2006

Two successful applicants will receive:
The support of a professional dramaturg (or drama tutor) over three drafts between November 2005 and March 2006
A week-long workshop and public presentation of their third draft as part of the Pasifika Playwrights Development Forum at Pasifika 2006, Auckland, March 2006

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE 5PM FRIDAY OCTOBER 28 2005

The Forum in 2005 saw four outstanding works developed, two of which are already heading into further production.

They are open to anyone of Maori or Pacific Island descent with a good story to tell and a passion for writing for performance of all kinds.
Applications must be in writing to: Mark Amery, Pasifika Playwrights, Playmarket, PO Box 9767, Te Aro, Wellington

Your submission must include in writing:
- A working title

A short synopsis of your story. What is it about?

A scene by scene breakdown: This may be a list of events or a more detailed account of the action of planned scenes.

- An outline of the characters. Who are they? What kind of journey will they be going on in the play?

- A sample scene. This shows us that you have promise in writing in the dramatic form. Include dialogue and stage directions. You can include a full scene, or sections from different scenes. Plays already at first or later draft are acceptable for application but must not have been previously produced professionally (i.e. With paid cast and crew).

- A personal statement about playwriting. Why do you want to write for the stage?

- A covering letter explaining who you are, outlining your writing background( if any) and personal background, and why you have submitted this proposal.

- Your full name, address, phone number and email.

- Number the pages of your script.

This script development programme has been designed to provide Maori and Pacific Island playwrights support in their ideas reaching their full dramatic potential. The successful applicants will be appointed a dramaturg on being selected and work towards a first draft due by December 2005, a second draft in February 2005, before completing a final draft for the Pasifika Playwright Development Forum.
