Philharmonia GM Resigns

The Board of the Auckland Philharmonia has announced that its General Manager, Anne Rodda, is resigning from the orchestra. She and her husband Gordon Hill have advised that they are expecting their first child early next year.

“There’s never a perfect time to take one’s leave from an organisation like the APO,” says Anne, “but the orchestra’s general health is now strong, and the prognosis for its future is extremely positive.”

With celebrations in place to mark the orchestra’s 25th anniversary in November, the Auckland Philharmonia is thrilled to announce news of a major one-off subsidy from Creative New Zealand of $600,000 to secure the orchestra’s position during the coming months. This comes on top of a generous grant of $540,000 from the ASB Charitable Trust, recognising “the Auckland Philharmonia’s significance as an important regional asset whose need is particularly great this year.”

The vital relief does not however address the orchestra’s requirement for on-going sustainable funding. Months of work involving the Board and Rodda to obtain long term financial support from the regional councils through the Mayoral Forum has yet to come to fruition, although the orchestra has been buoyed by the leadership and financial commitment of the Auckland City Council.

A new constitution is also very close to completion for the Auckland Philharmonia, and the players have recently received new contracts.

“Anne leaves the Auckland Philharmonia with our thanks for her dedicated efforts in leading it through challenging times,” said Chairperson of the Board, Rosanne Meo. “It is well known that Auckland’s much loved orchestra has faced uncertainty due to insufficient financial backing. Anne has played a valuable part in helping to secure a bright future for the Auckland Philharmonia.”

The Board will be advertising the position of Chief Executive Officer.
