JASMAX Film Festival - Celebrating Architecture

5 September2005

JASMAX Film Festival - Celebrating Architecture

The JASMAX Film Festival will be held from the 6 –12 October in both Auckland and Wellington. The festival is a collection of films celebrating architecture and includes films about some the world’s best architects and their architecture.

JASMAX Managing Director, Greg Boyden - “As far as we are aware this is the only film festival in the country that is dedicated to architecture and design. We are keen to promote a wider discussion of architecture and our built environment. New Zealand is perceived by the world as having a quality natural environment, our urban and suburban environs also need to support this. The film festival is a great opportunity for all to see how some of the world’s best architects have tackled the art of building.”

This is the first year that the festival will be held in both Auckland (Academy Cinema) and Wellington (Penthouse Cinema). The Auckland programme runs for a week, while the Wellington programme runs for 4 days.

This year’s festival includes films from Australia, Germany, Sweden and America. The films include a number of New Zealand premieres including Chain, a beautifully shot film from experimental filmmaker Jem Cohen and Philip Johnson - Diary of an Eccentric Architect, a personally guided tour of Johnson’s New Canaan Estate, which acts as both his home and a laboratory for his work.

Films included in the JASMAX Film Festival:

- Philip Johnson - Diary of an Eccentric Architect
