Homegrown Programmes set the festival on fire
For the 10th year running, the Moving Image
Centre is delighted to present the ever popular MIC Short
Film Programmes – Homegrown at the Telecom 2005 New Zealand
International Film Festivals.
Always a stand-out feature of the festival, the three diverse programmes which comprise Homegrown: Works on Film, Works on Video and Documentaries offer a dynamic platform for emerging and established local filmmakers to present their work at the highest level of film festival exhibition in this country.
“This year’s Homegrown is one of the strongest in years. Works on Film runs the gamut from black comedy to apocalypse; a range of genres from comedy and computer animation through to drama and dance covers Works on Video; the Documentaries programme observes artists and artisans at work. We meet master craftsmen, musicians, contemporary painters, writers and sculptors and follow these passionate people through the process of creation,” says Moving Image Centre Director, Deborah Lawler-Dormer.
Testament to the calibre of the programmes is the number of 35mm shorts that have been selected to screen at prestigious international festivals this year: Nothing Special (Cannes Film Festival); Tama Tu (Berlin International Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival); The Little Things (Berlin International Film Festival). All Homegrown films are New Zealand premières. Programmes may vary from city to city.
The Moving Image Centre, an innovative media-arts hub now located at Galatos Street, is the annual presenter of the Homegrown programmes.
MIC Short Film Programmes - Homegrown are proudly supported by Creative New Zealand, the Telecom New Zealand International Film Festivals, New Zealand Film Commission, 95bFM and AAV.
