NZ dogs race for top
prize
Greyhound Racing New Zealand will hold one of their biggest events of the year, the New Zealand Breeders Stakes, at Hatrick Raceway in Wanganui on Friday 17 June 2005.
Some of New Zealand’s top trainers who have whelped, raised and prepared their racing greyhounds will compete for the top prize of $41,500. The stakes have increased from $12,000 last season.
The final field of dogs and trainers are: Ole Dark, J and D Fahey (Balcairn); Tannochbrae, O Marron (Masterton); Celestial, B and E Gough (Marton);Thrilling Paul, AC Roberts (Rakaia); Light Pockets, G Cleeve (Kaiapoi); Accord, J McInerney (Darfield);Disclose, J McInerney (Darfield) and Go Pearl Go,Mrs V Jackson (Masterton).
The two reserves for the field are: Dusty Nero, L Fornasiere (Levin) and Aqua Tank, J Goode (Rangiora).
The NZ Breeders event was established by Greyhound Racing New Zealand in 1983 to recognise and reward the success of NZ bred dogs and encourage more trainers and owners to invest in the New Zealand breeding industry.
The Wanganui club secured a grant from “The Trusts Charitable Foundation” to help spend more than $80,000 on the refurbishment of the Hatrick Raceway clubrooms as an attempt to help stage more large events in Wanganui.
The NZ Breeders Stakes race night will be held at Hatrick Raceway, Sargeant Street, Wanganui, on Friday 17 June 2005 starting at 5:30pm.
