Fouhy scores in World Cup Regatta

New Zealand kayaker and Olympic silver medalist, Ben Fouhy, is looking forward to the World Championships in August after showing good form at the World Cup Regatta in Germany this weekend.

Fouhy is now heading back to New Zealand where he will start building towards the World Championships, which are being held in Croatia.

Fouhy, who was treating the Regatta as a lead-up to the World Championships, came to grips with his technique in the final round of the K1 1000 to take silver.

"After working with my technique in the K1 semi, I was very pleased to finish second in the final, ahead of Eirik Veras Larsen of Norway," says Fouhy.

Fouhy also teamed up with Steven Ferguson for the K2 1000, where they raced well to take fourth place.

"The K2 final felt awesome. We won the start and were in second position the whole way by .5 of a second. We finished .69 behind the winners and .33 off a medal. Steve and I both felt the K2 has improved," says Fouhy. "We now have some really valuable information to go away and work with."

Fouhy also improved upon his fifth place K1 500 result in Poland two weeks ago to take fourth place on Sunday. This result is impressive considering the K1 500 is a new event for Fouhy this year.

K1 500 Olympic champion, Van Coeverden took the gold in Poland and again in yesterday's final.

Fouhy's success follows two weeks of intensive training with Van Coeverden in Canada earlier this month.

"Adam trains at a high intensity and the experience was a valuable one for me," says Fouhy.

The two World Cup Regattas, which ran this month in Poland and Germany, are the biggest kayaking events outside the World Championships.
