Lucire, nominated for Gold Award, celebrates with May issue
Another celebrity, this time Sarah McLachlan, graces cover of New Zealand's fashion monthly
Wellington, May 5 (JY Media) New Zealand-owned global fashion magazine Lucire is celebrating becoming a finalist in the Wellington Region Gold Awards as it releases its May issue on Monday, and its Romanian edition a few days afterwards.
Canadian singer Sarah McLachlan is the magazine's newest cover girl, carrying on a tradition of occasional celebrities on the front of the magazine.
'Our first celebrity was Kylie Minogue,' recalls publisher Jack Yan, 'in our online edition back in 1998, just before her career went into revival.'
'In print, we've had Vanessa Carlton, and now Sarah McLachlan—and there are more to come,' says Lucire's editor-in-chief Nicola Brockie.
The latest issue also features interviews with Denise L'Estrange-Corbet of World and American designer Ralph Rucci. Shu Uemura, spray-on tanning and a shoot by Giuliano Bekor starring Clara Benjamin also feature. New York Fashion Week and ID Dunedin Fashion Weekend appear in the catwalk section.
Photographers Douglas Rimington and LuQman contribute shoots from Wellington (as seen on TV3's Nightline) and New York.
The eight-year-old title has been buoyed in the last few weeks by the announcement that it is a finalist in the Wellington Region Gold Awards. Lucire is contesting the Creative Gold prize against the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Learning Connexion and the Stetson Group. Not to stay put, its June issue will feature a 16 pp. men's supplement.
'It's wonderful to be championed by your home town,' says Mr Yan. 'We started Lucire in Wellington in 1997 and we have always shown that it is possible to run a global company from New Zealand.
'But, more importantly, we have been helped by a lot of people, many of whom gave their time freely to see to our success. The nomination is for them more than us.'
