Another Successful South By Southwest

PRESS RELEASE

Wednesday 6 April

Another Successful South By Southwest

With most of the New Zealand artists who played this year's South By Southwest (SXSW) music conference safely back home from Austin, Texas, the New Zealand Music Industry Commission (NZMIC) would like to offer a round of applause to those bands who participated in SXSW 2005. The Coolies, The Have, Jakob, The Mint Chicks, and Pluto all accepted invitations from SXSW to perform showcases and did a good job of making the most of the opportunity the conference provides.

The annual SXSW NZ Music Function was once again held in Austin's historic Brush Square Park, this year attracting some 500-odd people. They included guests from Billboard Magazine, the UK's Music Week and Radio 1 among the assortment of labels, managers, musicians, and media who were in attendance. Special thanks go to Kim Crawford Wines for their support of the SXSW NZ Music Function again this year, allowing our guests to sample a range of top-notch NZ wine while watching performances of the same calibre from all the NZ bands playing the conference.

While we're thanking people, the Lion Foundation cannot be thanked enough for their decision to make funding available for the bands travelling to SXSW. It would not be excessive to say that their financial support was the difference between some bands being able to attend or not. The NZMIC, as well as all the bands, are very grateful for the Lion Foundation's support.
