Natural History Film-Making At Its Best At The Festival Of Colour
The work of some of the Southern Hemisphere’s best natural history filmmakers featuring the latest documentaries on
nature, science, adventure, people and places, will showcase at the Southern Lakes Festival of Colour in Lake Wanaka
from 27 April – 1 May.
The films are coming to Wanaka as part of the WildSouth International Film Festival that runs in association with the
Festival of Colour. This will be the first time that many are seen by the general public, including the first ever
screening in New Zealand of a documentary in Hi Definition, the latest film technology.
The original crocodile man, David Ireland, is one of the guest speakers at the film festival and he is giving a public
talk on Amazing Animal Encounters as part of the Writers and Artists programme at the Festival of Colour. A
world-renowned wildlife cameraman who has filmed everything from sharks to lions, his latest project features
spectacular footage of him swimming with humpback whales. A man who puts himself this close to nature’s most formidable
creatures has a lot of experiences to share. His spectacular footage, combined with his lively storytelling, ensure this
will be a compelling show and a unique behind the scenes glimpse at how spectacular wildlife moves are made.
David Ireland’s Amazing Animal Encounters will take place in the Infinity Pacific Crystal Palace on 27 April at 1.15pm,
tickets $5 on the door. A full programme of the public film screenings, including festival award-winning features, will
