Sounds Of The Pacific Play Out On Mâori Television
Mâori Television’s weekly Mâori and Pacific Island music video show L.I.P.S (Locked into Pacific Sound) is staying true to its roots with a special Easter holidays broadcast from the Pasifika Festival 2005.
Screening with links shot from the hottest Pacific Island festival on the planet on Friday March 25 at 6.00 PM, L.I.P.S presenter Te Awanui Reeder will be bringing the flavours and colours of the annual event to Mâori Television viewers’ living rooms during the special.
L.I.P.S showcases the nation’s top ten Mâori and Pacific Island songs and videos each week, and along the way Te Awanui also meets the rising stars in Aotearoa music, plus the hottest talent currently jigging New Zealand’s music charts.
And, what better way for the Nesian Mystik lead singer to present the best of the nation’s hottest brown talent than from the Pasifika Festival that pulls in 200,000 punters each year to sample the aural, oral and visual delights of the south Pacific.
This year, the festival launched the Pacific Music Awards, brought together in conjunction with the presentation Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ) Tui Award for Best Pacific Music Album.
Including the Radio 531PI Best Pacific Group and Best Pacific Music Album award, the Niu FM Best Pacific Hip Hop Artist award, the APRA Best Pacific Song award, the NZMIC Best Pacific Male Artist award and the C4 Best Pacific Female Artist award, the Pacific Music Awards were an initiative that has gained the Pacific Island music industry long-awaited kudos in the public arena.
Te Awanui says he’s proud to be fronting the show because of his belief in promoting Mâori and Polynesian music. As such, L.I.P.S also provides an avenue for musicians from Aotearoa and around the Pacific such as Vanuatu, Fiji, Samoa and Tahiti, to promote their sounds.
Join him and thousands of other happy festival-goers this Friday for L.I.P.S, on Mâori Television at 6.00 PM.
NB: This programme will be repeated on Saturday March 26 at 5.00 PM.
