Auck Philharmonia: Baby Proms turn EIGHT!
Next month the Auckland Philharmonia performs its always popular Baby Proms concerts at the Auckland Town Hall, the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna, and for the first time, at the Hawkins Centre in Papakura.
Baby Proms have been an annual highlight of Auckland’s concert calendar for the past eight years, providing 2-5 year olds with a unique opportunity to experience the thrill of live orchestra during fun and lively 50 minute concerts.
Baby Proms have always been a great hit with adults and children. The Auckland Philharmonia’s Director of Operations, John Ure, who was instrumental in initiating the concerts, says the success lies in a combination of things. “The programme we present is different each year but is always a combination of short, familiar classical works and children’s songs. Audience participation is also encouraged throughout the concerts, and the ‘walk through the orchestra’, when the children walk along a path through the various sections of the orchestra while the musicians are playing, is always a major highlight. Overall, the concerts are good fun and very entertaining,” he says.
The 2005 Baby Proms are conducted by entertaining maestro, Marc Taddei, with popular children’s entertainer Jennifer Moss presenting the concerts and leading the singing. As in previous years, Baby Proms tickets are in great demand – book now and treat your children to a special and very rewarding experience.
