ignite05 festival set to light up Auckland
A biennial festival aimed at connecting young people with their creativity will open on Tuesday 5th April and run to Saturday 9th April at THE EDGE.
ignite05 is a leadership initiative, programmed and developed by THE EDGE® Community Arts. ignite05 – new voices_new pathways is a creative incubator and powerful platform for young people to engage with and gain knowledge from national and international practitioners at the highest level of festival exhibition in this country.
With four diverse programmes carrying four distinct voices, ignite05 opens up accessible pathways for the intersection of youth, culture, creativity and enquiry.
“Building on previous ignite festivals, the 2005 programme enters fresh terrain by exploring the field of new technologies. Internet art, electronica and cross-genre digital works are exciting additions to our dynamic programme,” says The Edge Community Arts Development Manager Sally Markham.
“Central to ignite has always been the drive to create interactive and inclusive experiences for young people, building on stronger and healthier communities. This year’s festival is set to challenge, inspire, excite and amaze them in other areas too - theatre, dance, film, hip hop and Djing all return to our festival,” adds Ms Markham.
