Shear Excitement At Royal Easter Show
Shear Excitement At Royal Easter Show
There's
shear excitement to be had at this year’s Royal Easter Show,
with the Lion Foundation Royal Easter Show Shears
competition back after last year’s resounding success.
Considered to be one of the top three shearing competitions in the North Island, the event will see many of New Zealand’s top shearers competing for honours.
New Zealand and world champion David Fagan, number two ranked Paul Avery and number three John Kirkpatrick are all expected to compete, along with another 80-100 competitors who will battle it out for their share of the prize pool.
The total prize pool has increased this year to $11,500, one of the biggest prize pools in New Zealand. And the first 10 placegetters in each category get a cash prize so there is plenty to go around.
All competitors are welcome, with categories including senior, intermediate, junior and speed shearing.
The highlights of the competiton will be the senior and speed shearing events on Friday 25 March.
Auckland A&P Society Secretary Robin Hill says more than 1000 spectators are expected to turn out for the Friday events which are bound to be great viewing for spectators.
Between 1000-1200 sheep will be shorn over the three day event.
The Royal Easter Show is on from 24-29 March at the Auckland Showgrounds.
