Maori Television is setting up to honour the best in Maori radio and television with the broadcast of the THE MAORI MEDIA AWARDS 2005, screening on Maori Television on Thursday March 31 at 8.30 PM.
Broadcast from the awards ceremony held in Rotorua on March 19, the awards are designed to showcase and reward the work of member stations of the national federation of Maori radio stations – Te Whakaruruhau o Nga Reo Irirangi Maori o Aotearoa – as well as programme providers to the Maori radio network. In their second year, the awards have now been extended to include work undertaken by the Maori Television Service and Maori producers working in mainstream television.
Federation chairman Hone Harawira says the categories include best sports programme, best outside broadcast, best rangatahi programme, best programme in any genre, best Maori language programme, best presenter, best te reo Maori television presenter (male and female) and most significant contribution to the industry.
Judged on factors such as listener appeal, entertainment value, audience participation, production expertise and professionalism, Harawira endorses this year’s entrants and anticipates a strong outcome.
“The Maori Media Awards is an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the best of Maori radio and television broadcasting, the best people and their best work,” he says.
THE MAORI MEDIA AWARDS 2005 will screen on Maori Television on Thursday March 31 at 8.30 PM.
