Ellerslie Flower Show Announces 2005 Dates
The Ellerslie Flower Show has announced the dates for the 2005 show.
New Zealand’s premier horticultural event will be held at the Auckland Botanic Gardens in Manukau City from November 16-20, with a gala opening on November 15.
The 2005 event will mark the 11th anniversary of the annual show. Initially established as a charitable fundraiser by the Rotary Club of Auckland, the Ellerslie Flower Show has built a reputation as the Southern Hemisphere’s leading showcase of horticulture, gardening and landscape design.
“The Ellerslie Flower Show is an absolutely brilliant event but I believe its real worth is judged by how much the show puts back into the community,” says Pete Cox, the show’s new general manager.
“We’re developg new initiatives to deliver real benefits back to the Manukau City region and to the horticulture and design industries that support the Ellerslie Flower Show.”
Ellerslie’s most-awarded designer, Karen Lowther, has been appointed Design Director for the 2005 show. Lowther has a wealth of show experience, including a gold medal from the World Garden Design Show in Japan. She also won the inaugural Ellerslie Flower Show Supreme Award for Design Excellence in 2003.
“Karen Lowther knows what it takes to create crowd-pleasing gardens and she will be instrumental in ensuring that this year’s show has world-class exhibits,” says Mr Cox.
“We want the Ellerslie Flower Show to both showcase leading edge designs and real gardens with plenty of ideas that visitors can take home and use in their own gardens.”
Xanthe White, who won the 2004 Supreme Award for Design Excellence for her low-allergy garden for Flixonase, has been selected to design the show’s major marquee display this year.
“Xanthe is a talented young designer and she has a truly outstanding display in mind. We know that visitors to the Ellerslie Flower Show will be amazed by her design.”
The 2005 Ellerslie Flower Show will also include a new specialist horticultural marquee with top collections and displays from horticultural societies and growers from around Zealand.
