Love lingers long in
Britomart Precinct
Auckland's newest testament to love is now open - on a building behind the Britomart station!
It's the new Love Letters exhibition, part of AK05 Festival and where the entire building has been covered with more than 6,000 love letters from home and around the world.
All of the letters have been pasted on to a building adjacent to Takutai Square behind the Britomart train station in downtown Auckland.
Love Letters is a public celebration of love in general - love for Auckland City, families, friends and sweethearts. The free exhibition is sponsored by Auckland's promotion arm, Heart of the City (HOT City).
"The building is covered and ready for Aucklanders and visitors to come down and try to find their letters," says HOT City marketing manager Liz Smith.
"New Zealanders have really opened their hearts for this exhibition - love is alive and well in Auckland and beyond."
And it's not too late to
wear your love on the building - love letters are being
accepted until the end of March. You can send them via the
website www.loveletters.net.nz
"We got the idea from Berlin, where the town's citizens covered the old post office", says Liz. "Now Auckland has its own monument to love."
The messages have been specially sealed so they are unaffected by wind or rain. When the exhibition concludes, celebrity letters are to be auctioned in aid of Variety - The Children's Charity.
The building will be available for public viewing anytime, day or night, until the end of March.
