Openair Cinema releases programme for final week
Openair Cinema at the Viaduct Harbour runs until the end of February and is publishing its programme for the final week. It promises cinematic highlights for various tastes: on Tuesday 22 February it's 'American Splendor' with Paul Giamattis' (Sideways) first break through role. Advertised as the director’s choice, it will be fun for all art house movie-lovers.
On Wednesday 23 February, the outdoor theatre snapped up the NZ Premiere of ‘Ae Fond Kiss’, a modern Romeo and Juliet tale directed by Ken Loach.
Thursday 24th will have Johnny Depp in his brilliant role as James M. Barrie in ‘Finding Neverland’ and on Friday 25th another Oscar-Favourite ‘Ray’ will be shown on the big screen.
“We said we’d screen movies that we couldn’t play or those that were sold out in the last week”, says Urs Bauer, Director of the six week long festival. “'The Incredibles' was almost sold out, so we wanted to give many other kids the chance to experience this great family night out.”
The Festival closes with another NZ Premiere, the Music-Doco ‘Festival Express’. After Woodstock, Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead, The Band and many others joined together on a train through Canada, stopping en route to give live concerts. It’s one of Janis Joplin's last appearances and a not-to-be-missed musical treasure.
Tickets can be booked online on http://www.openair.co.nz (no booking fee) or you can buy them during the day at the Tourism Auckland Viaduct Visitor Centre or at the cinema door from 7pm.
The Openair Cinema offers drinks, wine, beer, coffee, snacks and hot donuts. Shows are only cancelled if there is a high wind warning.
