Come check out some sizzling summer action at BATS Theatre this week with Annie Ruth¹s Dissident Voices: Collateral Damage and Wellington band Sstimuluss Live At BATS.

Dissident Voices: Collateral Damage Season: Wednesday 26 ­ Saturday 29 January Time: 7pm Tickets: $15 full/$12 concession As bombs continue to fall and kill civilians in Iraq, poets in the US protest the war and an actor in New Zealand performs a benefit show for Iraqi women and children. "One of the strangest things about war is that it co-exists with the most mundane and everyday things of life," says Annie Ruth, award winning director and actor and the performer of Dissident Voices; Collateral Damage.

Dissident Voices; Collateral Damage looks at how the tasks of living continue, even in a war zone. It contrasts Annie's own experience with that of a grandmother the same age in Iraq. "While I was in the States recently it amazed me how many people were protesting the war. I even found a website where US poets could post their anti-war poetry and I wanted to find a way to show solidarity with these poets," said Annie Ruth. Annie has contacted 15 of the poets on this website (www.poetsagainstthewar.org ) and gained their permission to perform their poems. She has also made contacts within the Iraqi community, some of whom will dance at the end of the performance.

All the money raised from performances of Dissident Voices; Collateral Damage will go to Unicef for distribution to women and children of Iraq.

Annie Ruth (director/performer), L'Hibou Hornung (director/musician), Brian King (designer), Toby Papazoglou (lighting & sound designer), Ceridwyn Roberts (publicist) and Thomas Press (operator) all join their voices with these poems in protest against the war.

Sstimuluss Live At BATS Season: Thursday 27 ­ Saturday 29 January Time: 9pm Tickets: $15 full/$12 concession

Come groove at BATS this summer with Sstimuluss for a dramatic audiovisual experience featuring powerful new music. For the Wellington music scene, Sstimuluss ­ Live at BATS will be a rare spectacle. Their unique sound, combined with performances by two movement artists and one of Wellington¹s foremost AV designers, will present a late-night treat not to be missed.

Sstimuluss have been a part of the Wellington music scene for over two years. They have played at festivals, such as The Gathering and Visions and have been regulars at Bodega, including performances at the popular While You Were Sleeping. They return to BATS after collaborating with Theatre Militia on WordVirus last August. The music of Sstimuluss is a combination of electronica, rich instrumentation and the sublime voice of Elizabeth Judd. For Sstimuluss ­ Live at BATS, she and Emile de la Rey are joined by co-writer/performer Jeremy Brick and Theatre Militia, to create what will be a gem in this summer's music scene.
