RadioWorks has appointed Mitch Harris to the key role of Director of Programming for the company’s soon to be launched news and information station - Radio Live.
Mr Harris (44) comes from a solid radio background, having spent more than 20 years in the industry.
Starting out as a journalist at 1XX in Whakatane, Mitch Harris has had a successful career as a radio Programme Director in Whangarei, Christchurch, Hamilton and Auckland. He then went on to management and consultancy roles within the industry, working throughout Australia and the UK.
For the past 18 months he has been Operations Manager for RadioWorks in the Waikato, as well as doing some talkback hosting on Radio Pacific.
“Mitch comes to this role with a wealth of knowledge about the industry, from his more than 20 years as a part of it,” said RadioWorks Chief Operating Officer Sussan Turner.
“Those who have worked with Mitch speak of his drive, focus and leadership, and I have no doubt those skills will help develop Radio Live into a talk radio station which all New Zealanders can feel proud of,” she said.
Mr Harris is very pleased to be taking up the new role.
“I believe we have the brightest line-up in electronic media in New Zealand on Radio Live. New Zealand may have the most competitive radio market in the world, but that competition has largely been at the music end of the spectrum. I look forward to creating strong competition on the talk front,” he said.
The station’s on-air line-up includes Martin Devlin, Michael Laws, Kerry Smith, Marcus Lush and Paul Henry.
Radio Live launches nationally in April.
Mr Harris’ appointment is effective immediately.
