New Zealand’s Largest 24-Hour Gallery At Festival Of Colour

Lake Wanaka will turn into New Zealand’s largest 24-hour gallery during this autumn’s Southern Lakes Festival of Colour. The town centre’s shop windows will display the Colour of the Land photographic exhibition featuring 38 giant prints by 19 of New Zealand’s leading photographers.

The landscapes of the Southern Lakes and Central Otago, along with the startling clarity of light, attract photographers from all over the world. The subtly changing colours, the landforms, water, trees, tussock and sky provide them with endless inspiration.

It is this inspiration that has been captured for Colour of the Land by photographers such as internationally renowned Craig Potton and Andris Apse as well as award-winning local photographers Anna Allan and Gilbert van Reenan.

“Colour of the Land will create a fascinating 24-hour gallery,” said festival director, Philip Tremewan. “By using the town’s shop windows the Festival is making some of New Zealand’s most celebrated photographers accessible to everyone. People can enjoy the exhibition on their way to work, as they go about their day-to-day business and even on the way back from the pub late at night.”

The Festival of Colour is a five-day celebration of the arts featuring dance, music, theatre and film together with a strong visual arts and writer’s programme.
