Maori Television To Celebrate First Christmas
In celebration of the channel’s first year of broadcast and first Christmas, Maori Television is setting up to showcase the station’s brightest stars in a Christmas special – TE HARINUI – A MAORI TELEVISION CHRISTMAS – screening on Maori Television Christmas Day, December 25 at 7.30 PM.
Join Maori Television to celebrate our first festive season with live music and special guests from Maori Television’s most popular series’.
Presented by Julian Wilcox, the variety special sweeps over the Christmas festivities with waiata and interviews with the T-SISTAZ (Te Waipounamu Teremoana and Te Manawaroa Teinakore), the TAKATAAPUI team (Tanya Simon, Taurewa Biddle and Ramon), L.I.PS. presenter Awanui Reeder, PEPI presenter Pirihira Hollings, HAKINA AHUREA front person Hine Castle, the MIND YOUR MOHIO crew (Kingi Biddle and Dean Umu), the songbirds of NGA PATITI MAOTA O TE KAINGA (Ben Tawhiti, Lois McIvor and Te Kepa Stirling and Tilly Reedy), the irrepressible Mika of MIKA LIVE and MAORIOKE hosts, Ruia Aperahama and Brannigan Kaa. Studio guests’ appearances will be spliced with highlights and footage from their programmes to wrap up the year.

Maori Television viewers are in for jolly numbers from the show band with Julian at the mic, a korero with seasoned entertainer Pio Terei and whanau, a guest appearance from outstanding Maori songstress Whirimako Black, the sweet harmonies of Maori Television’s very own divas the Santarettes and a special stop-in from a secret Maori Santa Claus!
TE HARINUI – A MAORI TELEVISION CHRISTMAS producer Erina Tamepo says the special’s theme is to mark 10 months of achievements for the channel since its launch on March 28 2004. “This hour and a half long special is about celebrating the landmark achievements the channel has reached in its first year of broadcast and to showcase some of the outstanding Maori talent who have featured on Maori Television. Kua tae mai te wa Kirihimete – me whakahirahira tatou! It’s Christmas time, so let’s celebrate!”
