Art in unusual places - Frontseat 10.50pm Sun. TV1

Frontseat, 10.50pm Sunday 19th December, TV One

Pride on your chest: Oliver Driver travels from Otara Markets to the Grey Lynn Park Festival to Cuba Mall to investigate the growing popularity of t-shirts with towns' names on them (Otara, Levin, Gore, Grey Lynn, Hutt Valley). T-shirt artists discuss the social, political and urban renewal reasons behind their designs.

Driving art around: Amomai Pihama films Otis Frizzell and Daniel Tippett as they paint yet another Escape Rentals van. The fledgling tourist empire started up with a strong artistic philosophy - co-owner Pete Barrett wanted their vans to beautify the New Zealand environment they travel around in.

Til death do us part: Wedding and portrait photorapher Sue Gee is bowing out of the business. She is bequeathing two decades' worth of photographic social history to the Auckland Public Library - if she can't find the photos' subjects first. Jeremy Hansen joins her on her search.

Band of artists: Pine are a lovely three-piece from Christchurch who perform delightful rock by night and make art and videos by day. Hannah & Aaron Beehre have an interactive video piece in the new Toi Te Papa: Art of the Nation exhibition at Te Papa Tongarewa, and Pine's new album 'Akira Sunrise' is just out. Fronseat meets up with them at Christchurch's Arts Centre, where Hannah is finishing her 2004 Olivia Spencer Bower residency.

The best of Frontseat: A review of the year's highlights, scandals & funny bits, and reporters Jeremy Hansen, Amomai Pihama and Emma Robinson O'Brien join Oliver in the studio for a barney about the big art stories of 2004.

Best regards,

The Frontseat Team
