Auckland’s Civic 75th Birthday Looms

Auckland’s Civic 75th Birthday Looms

What was happening in 1929? What will Auckland be like 75 years from now? 75 years is a pretty significant part of anyone's life...

In December, The Civic turns 75 and is opening its doors to the public. This is a rare opportunity for the people of Auckland to be a part of celebrating this amazing milestone in Auckland's history...The Civic is Auckland's most loved theatre and a quick look at its past, shows that we are lucky to still have it with us. From murders, suicides, scandalous affairs and the infamous days of Freda Stark and the WW2 cabarets to urban development, modernisation and the birth of the era of mass media - The Civic has withstood them all.

A media call is being held on Thursday December 9 at The Civic, THE EDGE, complete with a giant cake and a fantastic cake cutting photo opportunity with a painted 'golden girl' and Mayor of Auckland, Dick Hubbard. Prime Minister Helen Clark is still to be confirmed. I am hoping to secure interview opportunities with some of the key figures still with us. In particular, one of the dancers who danced with Freda Stark!

I will be in contact with you early next week to confirm the timings and attendees as well as any extra requirements you have. If you have any immediate queries, feel free to contact me on (09) 307 5369 or kellyh@the-edge.co.nz

Public open days: Friday 10 December - Sunday 12 December, 10am-4pm
