Bright new stars in the Christmas sky!
The stars will be shining brightly in the Auckland Domain on Saturday December 11 when Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park celebrates another Christmas cracker of a show packed full of music, dancing, fun and fabulous fireworks.
The nation’s most popular outdoor concert has helped launch some of the biggest names in entertainment and in 2004 organisers promise a magical mix of popular Kiwi entertainers as well as some of New Zealand’s hottest new stars discovered through a nationwide talent search held earlier this year.
Hosted by Jeremy Corbett, Kelly Swanson-Roe and Petra Bagust, the show offers something for everyone - from sing-along Christmas carols to music from top New Zealand bands.
Big names in the glittering line-up include Yulia Townsend, Jay Laga’aia from The Lion King, Lisa Chappell from McLeod’s Daughter’s, Tina Cross, Frankie Stevens, NZ Idols Michael Murphy, Dave Houma and Jessie Cassin; Roy Snow, Lapi Mariner, Sara-Jane Auva’a, Phil Madsen, Theo, Nick Afoa, Jason Te Patu, Bella Kalolo, Suzanne Lynch and son Andy Lynch from ZED.
Some of this year’s new discoveries include the talented 15-year-old singing sensation, You Jin Choi, musical theatre performers Alice Craft and Will Martin, Wannabe’s winner Harley Hale, and the nicest guy in weather, fresh from a successful run of musical My Fair Lady, TV3’s Russell Dixon.
Another highlight will be Goldenhorse, whose album ‘Riverhead’ was awarded a Tui for most radio play in this year’s 2004 New Zealand Music Awards.
Proceeds from Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park 2004 will benefit Youthline and funds raised will help extend the youth Help Line service - a free phone service providing the first point of contact for thousands of young people seeking help - to a 24-hour 7-days a week service.
Youthline Director Stephen Bell says the funds will also support its youth development programme and youth educational seminars across the country and youth research and evaluation projects.
“Youthline is not just working when young people have problems, but also working to build their potential and equip them as leaders in our community. Young New Zealanders should feel good about themselves and be optimistic about their future. Coca-Cola’s partnership with Youthline is one of the ways we can help them to do this. ”
