The Artists' Dole: The PACE (Pathways to Arts & Cultural Employment) programme was launched three years ago this month. Emma Robinson O'Brien heads to Dunedin where the scheme was first dreamed up to find out what they're planning next, and asks various artists, advocates and Ministers around the country whether it's achieving all it was set up to.
Derek Lardelli - Ta Moko Artist: Derek Lardelli, one of New Zealand's leading proponents of the fine art of Ta Moko, has been named as one of the 2004 NZ Arts Laureates, with its $50,000 prize, which is great news for the toilet block at the Whangara marae of Whale Rider fame. Amomai Pihama visits him at home and work in the Gisborne district.
Art Behind Bars: There are art classes, choirs, kapa haka groups and more taking place in our prisons. In light of the Corrections Department research revealed this week into repeat high risk offenders, Oliver Driver talks to arts access expert Penny Eames and actor-director Jim Moriarty about the role of art in the rehabilitation of offenders.
Pencil Gallery: Gisborne's first dealer gallery opened recently, to give locals a chance to snap up hot new Gisborne art before it is sold further afield.
