Spartans Summer Of Slam

SPARTANS GRIDIRON
MEDIA RELEASE

For immediate release:

Spartans Summer Of Slam

Gridiron: This Saturday at Lyndhurst Park Tawa, sees the of the American Football Wellington League for 2004/2005.

The season for the Ambassadors Cup begins with a preseason tournament involving the four Wellington based teams, the Giants, Knights, Wolves and Spartans. Each team will play 15 minutes of football against each of the others.

The first games starts at 12:30 with the final game starting at 3:30pm between last year’s champions the Giants and league new comers the Spartans.

This should be the game to watch as the Giants have been the dominant force over the last few years but this new team of the Spartans is looking well drilled and very organised.

Led by quarterback Yon Lucas from Ohio State, the Spartans have a powerful running game led by Mike Te Moana from Old Boys University and Ese Amosa from Hutt Old Boys Marist. The running back trio is completed by veteran Damian Reid who began his career following ZM’s Grant Keriama in to the breach.

With an active defensive led by strongman Steve Horua the Spartans will be looking to dominate any offensive set against them and he will be backed up by some very promising young talent such as Daniel Kendall at Safety using his experience at open side flanker to run excellent lines to make the tackle.

The unfortunate loss of 1st string Centre Richard Smith, who broke his leg twice in pre-season training, has forced the Spartans to go to the bench where they have found two potential replacements and will be looking to test these players in the tournament.

So bring the family down as it’s gong to be a great day with a chance to see New Zealand bring it’s own special flavour to America’s national game.
