Search For “New Zealander Of The Year Award” Winner Sponsored By Air New Zealand
As part of the annual Waitangi1 Day celebrations, the New Zealand Society (UK) and Air New Zealand2 are again seeking nominations for this prestigious award.
The award, which recognises the outstanding contribution that a New Zealand or British national has made in presenting “a positive image of New Zealand in Britain”, symbolises the continuation of the close relationship between the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
Nominations are requested from a cross section of the community i.e. from people who are very much in the limelight to someone who may have worked devotedly for a “good cause”.
Air New Zealand is sponsoring the award for the first time this year. “Whether from the Arts, academia, sport or public life, we would like to hear of those individuals ‘doing their bit’ for New Zealand in the UK” says Air New Zealand’s European Regional Manager Simon Bean.
Last year, the award was presented to Dame Judith Mayhew Jonas, DBE, Provost of Kings College, Cambridge for her continued support and representation of New Zealand. Previous winners have included The Rt. Hon. Don MacKinnon, Commonwealth Secretary General, the late Harry Mahon, OBE coach for the winning British Olympic Rowing team, world-renowned golfer Michael Campbell, celebrity chef Peter Gordon and Gold Olympic Equestrian winner, Mark Todd.
Nominations close on 10 December, 2004 and the winner will be announced on Friday 4 February at the Waitangi Day dinner at the Dorchester Hotel.
Application forms are available on www.nzsociety.co.uk and should be sent to The NZ Society Senior Vice President, Annette Arnold, 38 Gloucester Road, Kew, Surrey TW9 3BU, UK.
