In 2005 Chamber Music New Zealand presents an eclectic and electrifying season of superb artists from around the world

FEB/MARCH Kronos Quartet (US)

Internationally acclaimed Kronos Quartet tour for Chamber Music New Zealand in 2005. The quartet are synonymous with musical innovation and are known for their unique artistic innovation and fearless dedication to experimentation.

MARCH/APRIL New Zealand String Quartet (NZ)

The New Zealand String Quartet kick-start Chamber Music New Zealand’s 2005 Celebrity Season with George Crumb’s Black Angels. The work includes shouting, whispering, gongs, maracas, and crystal glasses with the quartet amplified to produce a highly surrealistic effect.

The brilliant Piers Lane performs in piano recital for Chamber Music New Zealand in 2005. This long awaited return visit will Piers’s third tour for CMNZ, for whom he first toured in 1997. Expect to be entertained!

JUNE Shanghai Quartet (China/US)

In 2005 the Shanghai Quartet return to New Zealand to perform as part of the Celebrity Season. Described by international media as musicians who give “the kind of performance composers dream of”, they present an ‘east meets west’ fusion of Chinese and Western works.

The trio Dean-Emmerson-Dean feature music for the unusual combination of clarinet, viola and piano. Their New Zealand tour will include Night Window, a work by Australian composer and trio member, Brett Dean.

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER Michael Houstoun (NZ)

New Zealand pianist Michael Houstoun performs four recitals for Chamber Music New Zealand in August and September next year. He is looking forward to performing a programme of Bach, Schubert and Debussy, which he describes as “divine music from first note to last”.

Flautist Bridget Douglas and harpist Carolyn Mills are Flight. The pair will be performing a broad range of works for the flute and harp, including a CMNZ commission by New Zealand composer Eve de Castro-Robinson.

SEPTEMBER Petersen Quartet (Germany)

Germany’s Petersen Quartet are regarded as foremost among the new generation of string quartets. They visit New Zealand for the first time for Chamber Music New Zealand in September next year.

OCTOBER Tichman-Bieler-Kliegel Piano Trio (Germany)

Three of Germany’s finest musicians come together the Tichman-Bieler-Kliegel Piano Trio and tour for Chamber Music New Zealand in October 2005. The trio comprise of Nina Tichman (piano), Ida Bieler (violin), and Maria Kliegel, one of the leading cellists of the 21st Century.
