A magazine of firsts: Lucire previews October 4 launch

Auckland, September 21 (JY&A Media) Fashion magazine Lucire, which launches on October 4 at a star-studded function hosted by Amber Peebles (Miss World New Zealand and star of TV2’s City Celebrity, Country Nobody), claims numerous firsts as it prepares to hit New Zealand newsstands.

According to publisher Jack Yan:

it is the first fashion magazine, and one of the first-ever magazines, to make the jump from web to print;

it is New Zealand’s first fashion monthly;

its team interacts with its readers regularly on a forum to share ideas and to keep connected with the "real world";

it is probably the first magazine in the world to tell readers how much the company makes per issue in a breakdown of its revenues;

it was the first New Zealand fashion magazine to announce it would go with a larger 235 by 335 mm format, in January 2004;

it is the first mainstream magazine to have invested, nearly exclusively, in New Zealand-designed fonts. All of its New Zealand competitors feature American and European typefaces;

it was the first fashion title to be named as a partner of the United Nations Environment Programme;

from its newsstand sales’ revenue, it will be one of the first fashion titles to head toward Carbon Neutral status, meaning that Lucire will attempt to its counter the carbon dioxide emissions from production by growing new trees with Future Forests.

The cover of the November issue, out October 4, features Dominican model Denise Vasi of Major, made-up and styled by leading make-up artist Jessica Tarazi, and photographed by Frank Forgione in New York.
Lucire retails for NZ$9•45 nationally and has a monthly print run of 20,000.
