Ford rises to the EnergyWise challenge with NBR Award winners
Ford New Zealand has responded to the EnergyWise 2004 challenge by entering two cars which have just been announced as class winners in the 2004 National Business Review Car of the Year Awards.
National Business Review’s Small Car of the Year is the Ford Fiesta, and an example of the stylish small Ford will be driven in the Small Car class of the EnergyWise Rally by Mark and Jill Cooper. Mark operates the Ford Advanced Drivers’ School, and won his class in the 2002 EnergyWise Rally driving a Ford Mondeo.
The second Ford to be chosen by NBR is the hot-selling Territory, picked by the influential business publication as SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) of the Year. To be driven by well-known motoring journalists Richard Bosselman and David Linklater, the Territory will be competing in Class F (large lifestyle / leisure vehicles), but its drivers will also be making a strong challenge for the EnergyWise Driver Award, which will go to the team which can improve on their vehicle’s official fuel consumption figure by the greatest percentage.
Most of New Zealand’s leading new car distributors will be participating in EnergyWise Rally 2004, which is to be held from November 2-5. It will traverse a challenging 1617 kilometre indirect route from Auckland to Wellington and back and is aimed at demonstrating the remarkable fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness of today’s new cars.
