The NBR New Zealand Opera Comes To Te Papa
On Sunday 22 August, the NBR New Zealand Opera will be at Te Papa for an afternoon of free performances and
demonstrations - with some fiery opera divas!
Visitors to Te Papa will get to see how opera singers train with a live, interactive singing lesson led by Wellington
singer-teacher Jenny Wollerman as she takes the PricewaterhouseCoopers Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artists through their
paces. Then Bruce Greenfield, New Zealand Opera's Head of Music Staff, invites wanna-be divas to step up as he leads the
audience through vocal warm-ups and teaches one of the well-known choruses from Carmen ready for the concert finale.
The afternoon culminates with some of the cast from the upcoming season of Carmen joining the Chapman Tripp Opera Chorus
and PricewaterhouseCoopers Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artists in a concert performance featuring some of the world's
most rousing and well-known opera choruses and arias from Bizet's Carmen.
This is the fourth year that Te Papa and the NBR New Zealand Opera have worked together on this event, offering the
public a unique and engaging experience of opera.
The NBR Opera at Te Papa runs from 12 noon until 3.15pm on the Marae, Level 4. Entry is free.
