Bats Update: Kia ora BATS affiliates

Kia ora BATS affiliates,

Two cutting edge shows continue this week until Saturday 31st July:

At 7pm: Theatre Pataphysical's production of 'ACTION' by Sam Shepard, directed by Ryan Hartigan.

At 8.30pm: 'FOX LIVINGSTONE - RETURN OF THE KING', written and performed by Felicity McDonnell, directed by Gabe McDonnell.

And to whet your appetites, here's what the critics said:

'Sam Shepard's 'Action', like Beckett's 'Waiting for Godot', turns our theatrical expectations upside down... 'This production of 'Action' by Theatre Pataphysical confirms that the success of 'After Kafka', seen earlier this year at the Fringe Festival, was by no means a one-off... Ryan Hartigan has drawn from his four actors sterling performances, and in the final scene - when Shooter is hiding crab-like under an armchair, the two women are hanging up the washing and Jeep is crying in the wilderness - he has given Shepard's images a dynamic force.' (Laurie Atkinson, 'Dominion Post')

'Fox Livingstone has seen better days. A few short decades ago, he was right up there with the Beatles and suspiciously intimate with Blondie. Now? The phone hasn't rung in twenty years... Living in a drug induced past, Fox recalls encounters with famous musicians and actors, their voices prompted by the bodiless, ever present questioning of an interviewer who is as real to Fox as the vodka he's been drinking. 'Felicity McDonnell delivers all this with a script which is funny, sharp, and enhanced by her brilliant understated comic timing. Her performance is extremely enjoyable, especially when hysterically original lyrics are sung to songs that will evoke nostalgia in anyone who loves classic hits - or hates them.' (Sarah, 'The Package')
