The Search is On! … Wine Judging Anyone?
The organisers of the Air New Zealand Wine Awards, the Bragato Wine Competition and the Liquorland Top 100 are searching
for wine knowledgeable people interested in becoming wine judges.
“We are looking for people with a keen palate and a deep interest in wine, prepared to put their abilities on the line
to see whether they have the qualities to be considered as potential wine judges” said Philip Gregan, Chief Executive
Officer of New Zealand Winegrowers.
Potential judges will be assessed at a judge evaluation tasting to be held in Blenheim on Saturday 28 August. At the
tasting, candidates will be asked to assess, score and comment on wines in a process overseen by Brent Marris and John
Belsham, respectively the current and immediate past Chair of Judges at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards.
“This is a rare opportunity for people with an interest in becoming wine judges to have their abilities and potential
assessed. The successful tasters will then be considered by the organisers of the Air New Zealand Wine Awards, the
Bragato Wine Competition and Liquorland Top 100 as candidates for inclusion in the judging system” said Mr Gregan.
Wine tasters interested in participating in the judge evaluation should contact Suzanne Hill at New Zealand Winegrowers,
