Hundreds Of Skis Tested At Cardrona
Over 30 ski retail staff from throughout the South Island got the ski season off to a good start at Cardrona Alpine Resort today as part of the New Zealand Snow Industries Federation (NZSIF) training initiative.
Staff from shops in Wanaka, Queenstown, Invercargill, Dunedin and Fairlie tested hundreds of pairs of skis brought to the ski area by all the leading manufacturers such as Atomic, Salomon and Dynastar.
“This is the first time we’ve used Cardrona and we certainly couldn’t have hoped for better conditions. There were a lot of happy ski retailers and wholesalers out there,” said Miles Davidson, ceo of NZSIF. “It’s all about getting these guys on the snow, testing the gear, and building up enthusiasm for the season. When they get back to the shop floor they can provide the customers with good solid information as they will actually have skied the product. We couldn’t do it without the support of the importers and also Cardrona who have provided free day passes for those who weren’t season pass holders.”
Nigel Kerr, Cardrona spokesperson, said it was a great initiative for Cardrona to be involved in.
“We’re delighted that NZSIF chose Cardrona’s opening day to run the testing. It’s great to introduce shop floor staff to the ski area and we’re lucky to be able to provide excellent testing conditions.”
Shops taking part in the programme were Base, Racers Edge and Good Sports from Wanaka, Element, Browns and Outside Sports from Queenstown. R&R Sports from Dunedin, Outdoor World from Invercargill and Ski Shack from Fairlie. Ski brands present were Atomic, Dynastar, Rossignol, Volkl, Head, Fischer, Salomon and K2.
