Subway Stage Challenge Performers Get Tips From The King.
New Zealand champion motocross rider Darryll King added high octane action to the Waikato finals of the Subway Stage Challenge at the Mystery Creek Events Centre, near Hamilton last night. (25 May)
The 25 times national champion stunned the 2,000 strong crowd with a series of high revving stunts across the stage while judges deliberated on the regional winners.
King who is also sponsored by Subway was a surprise addition to the night's entertainment, which saw eleven schools from the Hamilton district compete for a place in the national final.
Riding his customised Yamaha YZ450F motocross bike, King launched into the stadium with a massive wheelie, pulling off wheel stands, donuts and jumps from the stage.
It was one of the more unusual venues for the motocross legend but he enjoyed the challenge.
"The evening was awesome. Everything went to plan and I stayed on the bike without crashing, which is always a worry in that kind of environment," said King.
King headed home to the Waikato especially for this appearance. He has just begun the defence of his Australian motocross title.
And once the smoke cleared, the judges announced the Subway Stage Challenge winner for the region. Waikato Diocesan School for Girls received the honours for their multicultural musical production, "Human Destruction of the Animal Kingdom"
