Bush's Working Style To Be Hammered

News release bush - 1 May 12, 2004

Bush's Working Style To Be Hammered
You can own a Peter Bush

Like many great artists before him, you may not know Peter Bush by name but you would certainly recognise his work.

And now New Zealand fans of the iconic sports photographer are getting an opportunity to own a Peter Bush picture.

'Memories from the Sideline' is a three-city exhibition and auction of 15 important Bush images capturing moments from England, Australia and South Africa rugby tours to New Zealand.

The images are to be auctioned to raise funds for the New Zealand Cancer Society at cocktail functions in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch organised by clothing retailer Working Style.

The auctions are timed to coincide with All Black tests against the three big New Zealand rivals. Guests of honour will be All Black of the 20th Century Colin Meads and his wife Verna who is a cancer survivor.

Working Style principal Chris Dobbs says the pictures will be on display in the company's stores for two weeks prior to each auction. Admission to the exhibition is free.

"Memories from the sideline contains some of the greatest test rugby pictures from titanic struggles between four great foes," Mr Dobbs says. "Any of the pictures would be treasured by Kiwi rugby fans."

Mr Dobbs conceived the idea for the charity auction when he realised the England, Australia and South Africa rugby teams would all be in the country within a few weeks of each other.

"I've always admired Peter's work and I simply thought it would be a great opportunity to celebrate his talents and at the same time raise funds to help fight that menacing and deadly disease.

"With Verna being a survivor and Colin such an icon of rugby in this country the fit just seemed natural."

The events have been titled Pruning the Roses, Walloping the Wallabies and Battling the 'Boks. Peter Bush is expected make store appearances at Working Style the day before each test.

The Pruning the Roses exhibition opens at Working Style's Parnell store on Friday June 1 and the auction is at the Blind Institute on June 15. The All Blacks' second test against England is at Eden Park on the following Saturday, June 19.

Walloping the Wallabies opens at the company's Wellington store on June 28 and the cocktail function and auction are on July 13. The All Blacks play the Wallabies in a Bledisloe Cup match at the Cake Tin on Saturday July 17.

In Christchurch the All Blacks Battle the Boks at Jade Stadium on Saturday July 24. The auction and cocktail function take place the previous Wednesday (July 21) and the exhibition opens the Friday before that on July 19 and closes on August 2 at Working Style.

" Tickets to the cocktail function and auction cost $75 and include refreshments provided by Heineken and Matariki Wines, finger food, addresses by Peter Bush and Colin Meads and the auction. They are available from Chris Dobbs on 0-9-302 0532 or cdobbs@workingstyle.co.nz.
