Owners Guarantee Ellerslie Flower Show Will Go On

New Ellerslie Flower Show Owners Promise A 2004 Event To “Top All Shows”

The new owners of the Ellerslie Flower Show guaranteed today the show will go on in November as planned and promised the biggest and best event yet.

“We’re pulling out all the stops for the 10th anniversary celebration show,” said Dave Mee spokesperson for SMC Consortium Limited, which bought the Show last week.

“The 2004 Ellerslie Flower Show is going to be amazing. We’re backing the Show’s event team with all our resources and they have lots of exciting innovations planned.”

Mr Mee said the Show was staying at the Auckland Regional Botanic Gardens and would be held from 24 to 28 November.

“The enhancements we’re introducing this year include: night-time concerts featuring well-know international artists spectacular garden lighting displays, and late night opening hours

“We’re also launching a new evening ticket which we expect will be very popular as it means people will be able to go to the show after work and enjoy evening entertainment by the lake, while relaxing with a glass of wine,” said Mr Mee.

In a bid to secure the event the consortium gained support from the Manukau City Council who will continue to add the community element to the Show.

“We were delighted with the support from Manukau mayor Sir Barry Curtis who was determined not to lose this wonderful event,” said Mr Mee.

The Show’s chief executive Cath Handley said: “The anniversary show is going to be very special for everyone, it’s time to celebrate and share the magic of the Southern Hemisphere’s best garden show with as many visitors as possible - this is an affair of the heart and we will make it happen!”

Ms Handley also said that, to mark the 10th birthday, a book was being published later in the year highlighting favourite exhibits from previous shows.

The Ellerslie Flower Show draws more than 65,000 visitors each year from throughout New Zealand and around the world.
