Worlds Best
Mountain Film Festival Comes To Wellington
“Well of course
the Banff Mountain Film Festival is one of the greatest, if
not THE greatest film festival on mountaineering matters in
the world”
-Sir Edmund Hillary
The Banff Mountain Film Festival is back in Wellington this year, on Sunday 2 May., This tour, from the internationally renowned festival, features films on climbing, exploring, and mountain culture. There will 2.5 hours of films ranging in time from 3 to 52 minutes. Be prepared for lots of adventure, humour, and adrenalin.
Organiser Lynn Ayers from the New Zealand Alpine Club said she was excited at the chance to bring the selection of Mountain Films back to New Zealand given last year’s response and the strength of the outdoor community here. “The Banff Film festival is an internationally renowned event bringing together outdoor films from around the globe. After a multi-day festival in the mountain town of Banff, Canada, the pick of the festival then tours the world, and we are fortunate that this year it’s stopping in Wellington again. This is our opportunity to see a selection of some of the world’s best outdoor films.”
The event will be held at the Paramount Theatre where seating is limited to only 500. “After last year’s sell out we had to find a bigger venue to try accomodate more people” She said. “As with last year, tickets are available from three of our sponsors: Mainly Tramping, Bivouac, and Mountain Designs. Hang Dog Climbing Centre and Fergs Rock ‘n’ Kayak have also continued their support for Banff this year”.
This year the festival will also tour New Zealand. “With Banff being so successful in Wellington last year, we are pretty excited about taking it nationwide” said Richard Wesley, National Administrator for the NZ Alpine Club. “This year we have screenings in Auckland, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill”.
