Filming Starts On Sky Tv's First Ever Reality Show
Production of SKY Television's inaugural locally made reality series, THE PLAYER, starring the woman voted New Zealand's sexiest female, Nicky Watson, commences this Thursday.
The Player is a 10-episode Touchdown production that is scheduled to premiere on SKY 1 in May.
On this unscripted show, 10 young men from all walks of life, including students, entrepreneurs, entertainers and self-confessed Casanovas, will live together in a luxury Auckland penthouse apartment. Here, host Nicky Watson will assign them weekly tasks that test their sex appeal, sense of humour, sense of adventure and their right to be named the "ultimate" Player when it comes to the opposite sex.
In episode 1, Nicky will issue 15 candidates with their first challenge, after which she will choose the 10 most successful guys to move in to the apartment and proceed through to the next round. Thereafter, Nicky will eliminate one flatmate from the bachelor pad each week in her search for the winning Player.
The apartment will be equipped with state-of-the-art cameras. There will also be diary cameras for the wannabe Players. The women who become their targets will always be interviewed and given the chance to say what they really think of the guys - comments that could influence Nicky's decision as to who should be eliminated.
SKY Television's Director of Entertainment, Travis Dunbar said, "SKY 1 has flourished as a general entertainment channel over the last five years, but outside of live Warriors matches it has lacked a local flavour."
"To make our first foray into local production with a company of Touchdown's calibre is an exciting opportunity and a privilege. They fully understand the irreverent and escapist nature of the channel and have come up with a unique and humorous format to match," he said.
The winner of the competition will be honoured as the true Player and will be granted the dream job of working in reality television, plus numerous prizes totalling over $30,000.
