Surf Art Exhibition: 8 April - 13 April; http://www.artscalendar.co.nz/cp/57149C462be1d27d85e28fc44f205592a4bcab/ A dozen (and growing) of Taranaki's artists are submitting works for what is perceived as NZ's 1st Surf Art Exhibition
in New Plymouth over Easter. Coinciding with the Fosters Masters Surf Champs taking to the seas on Surf Hwy 45, there
should be many willing patrons for this showing. Organiser, Wayne Arthur, a local pioneering and still active surfer and
a collector of art, has identified the potential for this subject matter.
Success of this exhibition could determine it's life as an annual event. Taranaki's 3 District Mayors have collaborated
to supply a piece - maybe 'Helen Clark-esque' - each, which will be auctioned off to assist with the proposed Junior
Surfing Development progamme. Painting, photography, ceramics and textile montage are some inclusions promised. Held at
the Beach Street Hall, Taranaki
Spiral Gallery: Mic Watts, Kim Newall and Jamie Smith present 'Amphibious'; http://www.artscalendar.co.nz/cp/57150C462be1d27d85e28fc44f205592a4bcab/ All three of these artists have worked in the field of 2 and/or 3D animation. The resonances of their animated thoughts
are transferred to the still medium in similar ways despite their radically different styles.The result is this
exhibition of stylistically diverse works which incorporate an animated aesthetic in terms of composition, colour and
arrangement. Opening Wednesday 7th at 7.00pm. Free to All. Held at Spiral Gallery, Auckland Central from 7 - 17 April.
Spiral Gallery is a non profit space run by artists. Spiral provides support to emerging artists exhibiting in a
competitive, commercial environment. We exhibit artists working in a variety of media and have frequently changing
exhibitions. Come up and have a look!
Musica Sacra: Music for Good Friday; http://www.artscalendar.co.nz/cp/57151C462be1d27d85e28fc44f205592a4bcab/ Musica Sacra's presentation of Music for Good Friday has become a regular fixture in their calendar. This year
performing the famous "Miserere mei" by Gregorio Allegri, with its heavenly top Cs for solo soprano. William Byrd's
beautiful "Civitas sancti tui", Pablo Casals' rich "O vos omnes" and the dramatic "Popule meus" by Bardos will also
feature in this free presentation. Held on Friday 9 April at St Matthew-in-the-City, Auckland Central.
