Ian Hughes (Shortland Street, Bare) is beat poet Jack Kerouac and Scott Wills (Stickmen, Best Actor NZ Film Awards) is his side-kick & muse, Neal Cassady.
Just pull out the darkest, craziest thing you¹ve ever done. Just tell me, no excuses. In their pursuit for the ultimate high, Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady leave New York for Mexico, accompanied by a soundtrack of cool jazz, conversation, amphetamines & booze. This is the road trip that started all road trips.
It¹s the beat, the spoken word and two men who defined a generation. Written by Mike Hudson & directed by Margaret-Mary Hollins Beautiful Losers began life as a highly acclaimed 35 minute show created for the SiLO theatre¹s emerging directors programme, Restless Ecstasy, in 2002 and has been developed with assistance from Playmarket & Creative New Zealand into a full-length show starring the original cast.
³Capturing the essence of Kerouac & CassadyŠVery polished and very funnyŠ² (Sunday Star Times) ³Marvellous, irreverent, exuberanceŠa fine piece of work² (NZ Listener) ³Wonderfully aliveŠdynamic direction, brilliant performancesŠ²(Murray Edmond) ³If you¹ve never been to the theatre before Beautiful Losers is the one to see² (Accelerate magazine)
