New Freestyle School For Youngsters
New Freestyle School For Youngsters
Cardrona Alpine Resort has introduced a new youth camp, Phat Freeski, for competent 13-17 year old skiers looking for specialist training in freestyle skiing.
The three day camp will run during the school holidays over three dates with the goal of exploring the disciplines of big mountain, rail riding and big air. The coaches are all professional freeskiers who can share their knowledge of the competition circuit as well as provide intensive instruction in technique and the psychology behind the sport.
“As with any sport, it’s important to grow it from the grass roots up,” said Nigel Kerr, Cardrona’s marketing manager. “Two of the top 20 free skiers in the world are Kiwis and they provide huge inspiration for the kids. Phat Freeski will give the next generation the chance to learn the skills needed to follow in their footsteps. It’s a fun challenging course that is definitely not regular ski school.”
Young boarders can also benefit from the new camps. Professional coaches will teach proficient riders the skills they need to succeed in the competitive world of snowboarding in the snowboard version of the concept, Phat Freestyle.
All courses will take place in Cardrona’s internationally recognised Pipe Park and newly extended Terrain Trail while big mountain experience will be gained in the notorious Arcadia Chutes.
Phat Freeski and Phat Freestyle will run on 6 and 13 July and 21 September costing $130 per course. For further information contact Cardrona on 03 443 7411 or visit www.cardrona.com.
