The Upcoming Week at BATS Theatre - Fringe NZ
The Fringe NZ Festival is off to a flying start at BATS Theatre, with opening show Yatra bringing in full houses and rave reviews with its dynamic look at South Asian identity in New Zealand.
Bookings are flowing in for the upcoming week where up to three shows will be performing each night at the start of a hectic and exciting month for Wellington¹s art lovers.
Friday the 13th saw the successful premiere of dark comedy After Kafka, a new work by award winning local play-write Angie Farrow that combines surrealism, physical theatre, verbal storytelling, and a stunning set to examine life after Kafka.
Reviews are positive with the show being described as a Œsuccinct and satisfying piece of theatre¹, and Œan exhilarating production¹. After Kafka continues through till Wednesday night.
Scavenger, a comic tale about a tabloid journalist and Spanish royalty, kicks off on tonight, bringing mime, commedia, acrobatics, mask, and clowning to BATS with its cast of local and international talent.
The highly acclaimed Atamira Dance Collective make their Wellington debut on Wednesday, showcasing three cutting edge works by leading young contemporary Maori choreographers in Atamira.
The week is capped off with Thursday 19th¹s premiere of Evil Fiona¹s Love Test, a journey through the twisted imagination of Evil Fiona. The story of this seven toed girl is told through live music and dance.
