CAROLINE slept with CHRIS who's pestering HILLARY who’s friends with FIONA who tolerates SEBASTIAN who’s bugging SCOTT who’s wondering if Inviting Caroline was a really BAD IDEA.
Inviting Caroline is a fresh, quirky take on that familiar struggle we all know of how to put on the ‘perfect party’. It sets out to explore and expose social conventions, social conformities and social cons. In 2002, Inviting Caroline premiered in ‘The 4Seasons Festival’ in Hamilton. Now, Wellington’s cultured audiences will get the opportunity to experience the comedic wonder of what Waikato University Lecturer, Mark Houlahan coined, “a future cult kiwi classic”.
This is a collaborative effort, by three of Hamilton’s growing arts’ entities; Cloudscape Productions, Urban Vineyard Productions and Upstage Theatre. With the support of the Wellington Arts Council and the University of Waikato, Inviting Caroline brings to the forefront of our minds those parties we are all so often trying to forget. This season sees two of the original cast members joined by four new talents from the Waikato.
Inviting Caroline is a seemingly cynical portrayal of parties and stereotypes that proves to provide an energetic and ‘all-to-familiar view’ of a road that we’ve all traveled. Under the dramatic guidance of John Davies and with the Technical Expertise of Michael Knapp, this fast-paced energetic comedy is set to Invite, Ignite and Explode FringeNZ.
