Wellington - Get Set To Have Your Booty Busked
Off!
The streets of Wellington will overflow with thrills and spills this week as international funnypeople get set to out-do each other with comedic daring in a bid to make us laugh.
Fringe NZ 04 is proud to present the Fringe Busking Olympics, taking our collective funny bones by storm this Thursday 12th, Friday 13th and Saturday 14th. Busking Olympians will strut their stuff for the masses in Manners Mall, Cuba Street and Reading Cinemas. The 3-day Fringe Busking Olympics will culminate in the Fringe NZ Big Busk Off on Sunday 15th at 12pm, Queens Wharf Square.
The buskers, hailing from around the globe, will amaze and delight audiences with wacky feats on pogo sticks, slapstick straitjacket escapes, balloon sculptures, juggling and hoolahoop hip swiveling… to name but a few of their crazy tricks.
“We’re looking forward to the world class bravery, skill and sheer stupidity that these global stars of street performance are famed for. No doubt they’ll be responsible for creating lunchtime havoc, and adding a little madness to the days of Wellingtonians,” says Fringe NZ Director Tim Renner.
Stopping off from the international busking circuit are: Bongo Bolero; Bertrand Roure; Kim Potter; Steve London, Pedro Tochas, Damien Gordon, Kicking the Moon and Eli the Kid.
Master of the giant hoolahoop (performed on roller blades and dressed in drag), French performer Bertrand Roure brings his kitsch Street Musical Juggling Blah Blah Show entitled 'Do u because?' to the Capital following a successful stint at the NZ International Juggling Festival in Taupo earlier this month.
Pedro Tochas is a Portuguese Sculptor clown whose humour gained him the salubrious title in Norway of, ‘The Biggest Fool in 2003’. He was also awarded 2nd place in the International Busking Competition at Ireland’s Killarney SummerFest 2003.
Bongo Bolero are another not-to-be-missed busking sensation. The UK duo presents an act of cheeky satire with incredible acrobatic prowess. New Zealand’s own legendary busker Kim Potter, will also make his presence felt on the streets.
The Fringe Busking Olympics will provide a wealth
of colourful photo opportunities. A schedule of performance
times and locations is attached to this email.
