Rose is a very confused young woman. She believes she has no Soul. She believes she has no Future. She believes she is unlovable and unwanted. She is dependent on drugs and the man who brings them to her. Her life is nothing more than a nightmare, made bearable by the relief of Lady Heroin and the belief that she has no control. She is awakened from her living dream, her nightmare of pain, by Charm, the one who truly loves her.
This play is about the journey Rose takes to change her life, to turn things around for herself. There is no such thing as 'a completely hopeless case'. Anyone can pull themselves back from the edge of madness, the brink of despair.
Written and directed by Wellingtonian Helen Andersen and co-directed by American Rachel Clausen 'Thorns' is a brand new theatre piece. With a young cast and crew (most new to the professional stage) 'Thorns' promises to be a vibrant yet dark experience for the audience. Some may find the contents of the play disturbing, while others? Who knows...empathy, sympathy, hate?
'Thorns' premieres on Tuesday the 17th of February at Red Brick Hall/The Cambridge Congrgational Church on the corner of Lorne Street and Cambridge Terrace. It will run for two weeks Tuesday through to Saturday and will close on Saturday the 28th of February. The show starts at 8pm and runs for approximately an hour.
