“DO NOT BLAME THE MIRROR
IF YOUR MUG IS CROOKED.”

Auditor!!
International Premiere Studio 77, 77 Fairlie Tce
24 February – 13 March 2004-01-08

Auditor!! The premiere of a new comedy from internationally experienced playwright John Downie presented by the award winning Doctor Dapertutto theatre company. Auditor!! takes as it’s source the Government Inspector Nikolai Gogol’s scathing comedic critique of Russian society. In place of Tsarist Russia, Auditor!! substitutes 1980s New Zealand.

Auditor!! is based in a small North Island town. Corruption is rife among the towns council, from the mayor on down. One day, a communication is received suggesting that an auditor is coming to investigate the town, incognito. The paranoia of the expected visit leads them to believe anything they want. They will do anything they can to fool, bribe, cajole and drug the auditor to prevent him from discovering the truth. But do they have the right man…

James Sutherland has assembled a large and impressive ensemble cast comprising many of the most promising new actors on the Wellington theatre scene. The cast includes James Ashcroft, recently acclaimed for his work as the Marquis de Sade in Quills at Bats and just returned from an internship with the Wooster Group in New York. Auditor!! will be performed at Studio 77- the most versatile theatre in Wellington.

Doctor Dapertutto is an innovative new theatre company. Their first show Showshalist scooped the Fringe Darling, the top Fringe Award, at the 2001 Fringe Festival. They are also winners of the Pelorus Trust Creativity Grant. Doctor Dapertutto constantly seeks to fuse other forms of theatre into their work to add a strong interdisciplinary flavour. From Asian theatre forms through European forms such Commedia del’Arte and the intergration of the actor with multi-media in the theatre.

This show will be a must see.

Performance Times and Dates: 7.30pm 24 February – 13 March 2004. There will be no shows on Sundays or Mondays.
